Was tun mit diesem Ruhetag am Ende der Reise? Keiner von uns hat Lust, bei \u00fcber 25 Knoten Wind eine Rundfahrt auf dem IJsselmeer zu machen, selbst wenn es heute weniger Regen geben sollte. Nicht einmal Urk kann uns locken! What to do with this resting day at the end of the voyage? Neither of us feels like doing a round trip on the IJsselmeer in over 25 knots of wind, even if there should be less rain today. Not even Urk can tempt us! So, we take the car and make a trip to Enkhuizen, where Hanna and Matthias have

Samstag, 23. Oktober
Heute erwartet uns ein arbeitsreicher Tag. Wir wollen rechtzeitig zum Kran fahren. Sollten sich unsere Vorg\u00e4nger etwas versp\u00e4ten, w\u00fcrden wir die Arbeiter ersuchen, dass sie uns gleich drannehmen, was uns eine halbe Stunde mehr beim Einwintern und Tank Ausbauen bringen w\u00fcrde. So ist es dann auch tats\u00e4chlich. Als das andere Boot beim Kran endlich auftaucht, sind wir schon drinnen und haben die Gurte unter dem Rumpf. Vorher haben wir auch noch den Frostschutz am Motor erledigt, den Wassertank ausgepumpt und die Batterien ausgebaut. Als das Boot an Land steht, werden auch die Segel abgeschlagen und dann geht es an den Tank. Zuerst pumpen wir den Diesel ab. Fast 40 Liter sind von den 65, die der Tank fasst, noch immer da. A busy day awaits us today. We want to get to the crane on time. If our predecessors were a little late, we would ask the staff to take us straight on, which would give us half an hour more to winterise and remove the tank. And that is indeed what happens. When the other boat finally appears at the crane, we are already inside and have the straps under the hull. Before that we have also done the antifreeze on the engine, pumped out the water tank and removed the batteries. When the boat is ashore, the sails are also taken down and then we go to the tank. First, we pump out the diesel. Almost 40 litres are still there from the 65 that the tank holds. That means we have hardly used 1 litre per hour. That is reassuring.<\/p>

Bevor ich richtig mitkriege, was passiert, ist Matthias schon mit Rohrzange und Schraubenschl\u00fcssel in die Backkiste getaucht und hat alle Verbindungen gel\u00f6st. Ich l\u00f6se ihn ab und lasse noch den Rest des Diesels aus dem Tank laufen. Mit dem kleinen Sch\u00fcsselchen, das gerade unter dem Hahn Platz hat, dauert das seine Weile. Schlie\u00dflich ist der Tank leer und leicht genug, dass er aus dem Rumpf geholt werden kann. Auch das klappt sofort wie am Schn\u00fcrchen. Danach lassen wir noch den \u201eSumpf\u201c des Tanks auslaufen, sp\u00fclen ihn ein paarmal durch und entsorgen alle Abf\u00e4lle korrekt im \u201eMilieu-Container\u201c. Dann wird er noch gr\u00fcndlich und geruchssicher f\u00fcr den Transport verpackt und wir schlie\u00dfen die Arbeiten mit dem Einpacken unserer Reisesachen endg\u00fcltig ab.<\/p>

Nachdem Cockpit und Salondach noch mit der Persenning abgedeckt sind, lassen wir die pepperbird<\/i> auf dem Platz vor dem Kran stehen und fahren ins Hotel. Das Boot wird erst am Montag zum Winterstellplatz gebracht. F\u00fcr heuer ist die Saison vorbei. \u2013 Aber nicht unsere Abenteuer!<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Before I really realise what is happening, Matthias has already dived into the cockpit locker with pipe pliers and some spanners and loosened all the pipe connections of the tank. I relieve him from his place in the locker and let the rest of the diesel run out of the tank. With the small bowl that just fits under the tap, this takes a while. Finally, the tank is empty and light enough to be taken out of the hull. This also works „like clockwork“. Then we drain the „sump“ of the tank, rinse it a few times and dispose of all the waste correctly in the „milieu container“. Shortly thereafter, the tank is packed thoroughly and odour-proof for transport and we finally finish the work with the packing our stuff for the journey home.<\/p>

After the cockpit and saloon roof are covered with the tarpaulin, we leave pepperbird<\/em> in front of the crane and drive to the hotel. The boat will be taken to the winter storage area on Monday. The season is over for this year. \u2013 But not our adventures!<\/p>

Samstagabend, 23. Oktober
Damit wir nicht m\u00fcde und schmutzig unsere Heimreise antreten m\u00fcssen, haben wir noch einmal zwei Zimmer im Leonardo Hotel Lelystad gebucht. Zum Abendessen wollen wir wieder zu dem guten indischen Restaurant gehen, das wir im Fr\u00fchjahr entdeckt haben. Es wird ein ganz feiner Abend, der freundliche Wirt erz\u00e4hlt uns ein bisschen aus seiner \u201eMigrationsgeschichte\u201c vom Punjab nach Flevoland. Danach machen wir noch einen Verdauungsspaziergang zum Bahnhof, damit Matthias den Weg vom Hotel schon einmal kennt; sein Zug geht um 6:45 am Morgen.<\/p>

An einer dunklen Stra\u00dfenecke \u00fcbersehe ich ein Hindernis im Boden stolpere dar\u00fcber und falle ungebremst auf die rechte Schulter. Ich sp\u00fcre sofort, dass da jetzt etwas kaputt gegangen ist. Auf der finsteren Stra\u00dfe kann aber nicht gekl\u00e4rt werden, was. Also gehen wir zur\u00fcck zum Hotel und mir wird klar, dass das wohl in einem Spital angeschaut werden m\u00fcsse \u2013 es k\u00f6nnte wom\u00f6glich gebrochen sein.<\/p>

So that we don’t have to start our journey home tired and dirty, we have booked two more rooms at the Leonardo Hotel in Lelystad. For dinner we want to go again to the good Indian restaurant we\u2019ve discovered in spring. It is going to be a very nice evening; the friendly host tells us a bit about his „migration history“ from the Punjab to Flevoland. Afterwards we take a digestive walk to the train station, so that Matthias already knows the way from the hotel; his train leaves at 6:45 in the morning.<\/p>

At a dark street corner, I miss an obstacle in the ground, trip over it and fall on my right shoulder without dampening the fall. I immediately feel that something has gone massively wrong. On the dark road, however, it is impossible to find out what. So, we go back to the hotel, and I realise that it probably needs to be looked at in a hospital \u2013 it could possibly be broken.<\/p>

Im Hotel ruft die nette Rezeptionistin die Rettung und der freundliche Sanit\u00e4ter, der 20 Minuten sp\u00e4ter unser Zimmer betritt, meint mit sicherer Stimme: \u201eDiese Schulter ist ausgerenkt, das haben wir gleich, ich bin darin ausgebildet!\u201c Also packt er meinen Arm, dreht ihn h\u00f6chst professionell irgendwie herum, ich schrei vor Schmerz auf — nichts! Der nach wie vor freundliche Sanit\u00e4ter meint, das w\u00fcrde schon sehr weh tun, er wisse das, aber ich k\u00f6nne sicher sein, wenn das Gelenk erst wieder an seinem Platz ist, sind die Schmerzen sofort zu Ende. Also noch einmal drehen — wieder nichts!<\/p>

Nun beginnt der freundliche Sanit\u00e4ter doch zu zweifeln, meint, dass er ja nichts schlimmer machen wolle, wenn es vielleicht doch keine Luxation w\u00e4re. Sie w\u00fcrden mich jetzt zusammenpacken und ins Spital bringen, dort solle ein R\u00f6ntgen den erforderlichen Aufschluss bringen. Hanna darf zum Gl\u00fcck im Rettungswagen mitfahren und wir brausen durch die Nacht nach Harderwijk, wo es wohl die n\u00e4chste offene Unfallstation gibt. Auch dort sind alle Leute au\u00dferordentlich freundlich, auf das R\u00f6ntgen muss ich nicht lange warten: der Oberarm ist knapp unterhalb der Kugel gebrochen, der freundliche Sanit\u00e4ter ist aber nicht mehr da. Aber ich wei\u00df nicht, ob ich ihm das Sprichwort h\u00e4tte \u00fcbersetzen k\u00f6nnen: \u201eGut gemeint ist oft das Gegenteil von gut.\u201c<\/p>

At the hotel, the nice receptionist calls the ambulance and the friendly paramedic who enters our room 20 minutes later says in a confident voice: „This shoulder is dislocated, we’ll have that in a minute, I’m trained in this!“ Then he grabs my arm, twists it around in a most professional way, I cry out in pain — nothing! The still friendly paramedic says that it would hurt a lot, he knows that, but I can be sure that once the joint is back in place, the pain will end immediately. So once again a firm twist — still nothing!<\/p>

Now the friendly paramedic begins to have doubts, saying that he doesn’t want to make things worse if it wasn’t a dislocation after all. They would now pack me up and take me to the hospital, where an X-ray would provide the necessary information. Luckily Hanna is allowed to ride in the ambulance, and we speed through the night to Harderwijk, where there is probably the next open casualty department. There too, all the people are extremely friendly, I don’t have to wait long for the X-ray: my upper arm is broken just under the joint ball, the friendly paramedic is no longer there, however. But I don’t know if I could have translated the German proverb to him: „Well-meant is often the opposite of good“.<\/p>

Gegen drei Uhr fr\u00fch kommen wir wieder ins Hotel. Matthias hat gewartet, bis wir ihm das Ergebnis aus dem Spital mitteilen konnten, dann ist er schlafen gegangen, schlie\u00dflich geht um 6:45 sein Zug.<\/p>

F\u00fcr Hanna und mich ist klar, dass wir am Sonntag nicht nach Hause fahren k\u00f6nnen. Hanna muss sich auf jeden Fall vorher ausschlafen und w\u00fcrde auch nicht an einem Tag die ganze Strecke allein fahren k\u00f6nnen. Also haben wir noch eine Nacht im Hotel verl\u00e4ngert. Wir bekommen auch ein anderes Zimmer, weil ich nun eine barrierefreie Dusche brauche. Dazu hat uns das Hotel ein Fr\u00fchst\u00fcck spendiert und uns auch sonst bestens unterst\u00fctzt. Das Leonardo Hotel hat jetzt eine Stammkundschaft mehr.<\/p>

Sunday, 24 October
We get back to the hotel around three in the morning. Matthias waited until we could tell him about the result from the hospital, then he went to sleep, after all his train leaves at 6:45.<\/p>

For Hanna and me it is clear that we would not be able to go home on Sunday. In any case, Hanna has to get a good night’s sleep beforehand and would not be able to drive the whole distance alone in one day. So, we extend one more night at the hotel. We also get another room because I now need a barrier-free shower. The hotel staff also gives us breakfast for free and supports us in many other ways. The Leonardo Hotel now has one more regular customer.<\/p>

Montag, 25. Oktober
Ich trete heute nicht meinen Dienst an, sondern meinen Krankenstand. Wir finden heraus, dass W\u00fcrzburg ziemlich genau in der Mitte des Weges zwischen Lelystad und Wien liegt und dass es ein Hotel gibt, das drei Kilometer von der Autobahn an der Stadteinfahrt liegt. Also W\u00fcrzburg! Sp\u00e4ter bekommen wir mit, dass ein paar hundert Meter von unserem Hotel entfernt ein exzellentes italienischen Restaurant existiert, das zuf\u00e4llig in einem alten Hotel \u201eZur Fischzucht\u201c untergebracht ist. Den Lachs kann ich mit der unge\u00fcbten linken Hand ganz gut verarbeiten, die Paracetamol verhindern schmerztechnisch das Schlimmste. Lustig ist es nicht.<\/p>

Dienstag, 26. Oktober (Nationalfeiertag)
Wir machen in Attnang, bei Hannas Bruder Peter, eine weitere Zwischenstation. Peter kennt einen Schlosser, der unseren Tank aus rostfreiem Stahl \u00fcber den Winter nachbauen wird. N\u00e4chstes Fr\u00fchjahr wollen wir den neuen Tank hier wieder abholen.
Ich hoffe, dass ich bis dahin unser Gro\u00dfsegel wieder aus eigener Kraft setzen werde k\u00f6nnen.<\/p>

Monday, 25 October
I am not on duty today, but on sick leave. We find out that W\u00fcrzburg is pretty much in the middle of the way between Lelystad and Vienna and that there is a hotel three kilometres from the motorway at the entrance to the city. W\u00fcrzburg it is! Later we find out that a few hundred metres from our hotel there is an excellent Italian restaurant, which happens to be housed in an old hotel called „Zur Fischzucht“. I can handle the salmon quite well with my untrained left hand, the paracetamol prevents the worst of the pain. It is not much fun.<\/p>

Tuesday, 26 October (Austrian national holyday)
We make another stopover in Attnang at Hanna’s brother, Peter. Peter knows a locksmith who will rebuild our tank in stainless-steel over the winter. Next spring, we want to pick up the new tank here.
I hope that by then I will be able to set our mainsail all by myself again.<\/p>
