Inzwischen haben wir zwei N\u00e4chte auf Vlieland verbracht und den gestrigen K\u00f6nigstag, den Geburtstag von Willem Alexander, zu einer langen Wanderung im warmen Fr\u00fchlingswetter genutzt. Zun\u00e4chst zu unserem gestrigen Wandertag: Nach dem Fr\u00fchst\u00fcck orientieren wir uns noch ein bisschen in der Marina, dann brechen wir Richtung Dorfzentrum auf. Auf dem Weg dorthin kommen wir bei der Landestelle der F\u00e4hre vorbei und fragen nach den Bedingungen. Es scheint, dass anl\u00e4sslich des langen Wochenendes – mit Koningsdag und 1. Mai sind das f\u00fcnf Tage – die F\u00e4hren zum Teil schon ausgebucht sind, also setzen wir uns in ein Kaffeehaus, trinken Espresso und buchen die f\u00fcnf Tickets, zwei hin, drei zur\u00fcck.<\/p>

Dann brechen wir zur Wanderung auf. Bevor wir jedoch den kleinen H\u00fcgel zum Leuchtturm erklimmen k\u00f6nnen, m\u00fcssen wir uns durch die Menge an orange gekleideten Feiernden im Dorfzentrum k\u00e4mpfen. Schlie\u00dflich haben wir den Ort hinter uns gelassen und wandern entspannt durch die D\u00fcnen.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

First of all about our walking day yesterday: After breakfast we get our bearings a bit in the marina, then we set off in the direction of the village centre. On the way there, we pass the ferry landing and ask about the conditions. It seems that on the occasion of the long weekend – with Koningsdag and 1 May that’s five days – the ferries are partly already fully booked, so we sit down in a coffee house, drink espresso and book the five tickets, two there, three back.<\/p>

Then we set off for the hike. But before we can climb the small hill to the lighthouse, we have to fight our way through the crowd of orange-clad revelers in the village centre. Sp\u00e4ter gehen wir raus auf den Nordseestrand. Die frische Seeluft und das Wandern auf dem breiten, endlos scheinenden Sandstrand ist entspannend und wohltuend. <\/p>

Nach einigen Kilometern wenden wir uns wieder dem H\u00fcgelkamm der Sandd\u00fcnen zu, wo wir Fasane und Wildg\u00e4nse beobachten. Nach einer kurzen Rast und einem sp\u00e4ten Mittagessen im Moos der D\u00fcnen kommen wir wieder in den Kiefernwald, wo wir sogar Pilze entdecken. Seltsame Vegetationen trifft man auf diesen Wattinseln an.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Later we go out onto the North Sea beach. The fresh sea breeze and walking on the wide, seemingly endless sandy beach is relaxing and soothing.<\/p>

After a few kilometres, we turn back towards the ridge of the sand dunes, where we observe pheasants and wild geese. After a short rest and a late lunch in the moss of the dunes, we enter the pine forest again, where we even discover mushrooms. Ein paar Dinge will ich aber noch von unserer Watten-Fahrt von vorgestern erz\u00e4hlen:
Nachdem wir p\u00fcnktlich um 10:40 bei der Hafenausfahrt von Texel auf das Waddenmeer hinausgefahren waren, wenden wir uns nach Norden, um den Texelstrom entlangzufahren. Die auflaufende Flut hilft uns dabei, der m\u00e4\u00dfige Nordwestwind erlaubt Segeln mit Vollzeug.<\/p>

Ab jetzt geht es darum, den verschiedenen Fahrwassern zu folgen, Scheurak, Omdraai, Inschot und wie sie alle hei\u00dfen. Je nach der Richtung des Fahrwassers k\u00f6nnen wir mehr oder weniger gut segeln und nachdem der Wind weiter nach Nord dreht, m\u00fcssen wir fast die halbe Strecke unter Motor zur\u00fccklegen. „Kritisch“ ist eigentlich nur das Fahrwasser „Omdraai“, weil wir dort au\u00dfer bei Hochwasser nicht genug Tiefe vorfinden w\u00fcrden. Die untiefste Stelle, die wir messen, hat noch immer 2,4 m, also noch 80 cm unter dem Kiel. Das reicht!<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

But I still want to tell you a few things about our trip over the Wadden Sea the day before yesterday:<\/p>

After leaving Texel harbour on time at 10:40 a.m., we turn north to sail along the Texel Current. The rising tide helps us, and the moderate north-westerly wind allows us to sail with a full sail.<\/p>

From now on it’s a matter of following the various fairways, Scheurak, Omdraai, Inschot and what they are all called. Depending on the direction of the fairway, we can sail more or less well and after the wind shifts further to the north, we have to cover almost half the distance under motor. The only „critical“ part is actually the fairway „Omdraai“, because we would not find enough depth there except at high tide. The shallowest point we measure is still 2.4 m, 80 cm under the keel. Nach der seichtesten Stelle im Fahrwasser „Omdraai“ kentert der Strom und wir nutzen nun den ablaufenden Ebbstrom, um uns der n\u00e4chsten „kritischen“ Stelle zu n\u00e4hern, dem „Seegatt“, das hei\u00dft der \u00d6ffnung zwischen den Inseln Vlieland und Terschelling. Der auffrischende Nordwind steht gegen den auslaufenden Ebbstrom, was oft zu einer sehr unangenehmen steilen Welle f\u00fchrt, bei \u00fcber 5 Windst\u00e4rken kann das sogar gef\u00e4hrlich werden.<\/p>

Wir erhaschen noch einen kurzen Blick auf die offene Nordsee. Die Segel haben wir wohlweislich schon beim Auffrischen des Windes eingeholt, weil wir bei den Verh\u00e4ltnissen keine Lust mehr haben gegen den Wind aufzukreuzen. Als wir dann aber in das Fahrwasser „Vliesloot“ einbiegen und die Abdeckung der Insel den Seegang beruhigt, k\u00f6nnen wir uns kurz vor der Hafeneinfahrt in Ruhe auf das Anlegeman\u00f6ver in der Marina vorbereiten.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

After the shallowest part of the fairway „Omdraai“, the tide changes, and we now use the outgoing ebb current to approach the next „critical“ spot, the „zeegat or sea channel“, i.e. the opening between the islands of Vlieland and Terschelling. The freshening north wind is against the outgoing ebb current, which often leads to a very unpleasant steep sea, at over force 5 of wind it can even become dangerous.<\/p>

We catch a brief glimpse of the open North Sea. We have wisely taken in the sails when the wind freshens, because we don’t feel like beating against the wind in these conditions. But when we turn into the fairway „Vliesloot“ and the cover of the island calms the swell, we can calmly prepare for the mooring manoeuvre in the marina shortly before the harbour entrance.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t
