Um das zu erkl\u00e4ren, muss ich wohl etwas weiter ausholen: Als ich 2004 auf Einladung von Johannes meinen ersten Segelt\u00f6rn auf dem Meer machte, waren wir in Griechenland. 2007 verbrachten wir unseren Familienurlaub auf Ikar\u00eda, die Insel, auf der wir 2004 auch angelegt hatten. Das Jahr darauf wurde uns von einem Kollegen Ost-Kreta als Reiseziel empfohlen und seit dem ersten Besuch, in Pal\u00e9kastro, in Jorgos‘ Hotel „Marina Village“ sind wir von dieser Region nicht mehr losgekommen. <\/p>

Mindestens einmal, manchmal auch zweimal pro Jahr besuchen wir Ost-Kreta, im Jahr 2010 legten wir auf unserem Charter-T\u00f6rn in Sit\u00eda, Kouremenos und Kato Zakros an. Gegen Ende der Zehner-Jahre, als unsere Pensionierung langsam in Sichtweite kam, spielten wir mit dem Gedanken, uns eines der leerstehenden H\u00e4uschen in einem der pittoresken alten D\u00f6rfer in der N\u00e4he der K\u00fcste zu kaufen.<\/p>

Hatte ich vorher schon meist das Gef\u00fchl, „auf der falschen Seite der K\u00fcste“ gelandet zu sein, so sollte die Idee, uns eine eigene kleine Yacht zuzulegen, dem Gedanken vom Eigenheim in Ost-Kreta eine neue Wendung geben. Die Kosten w\u00fcrden sich in etwa die Waage halten, aber mit dem Boot w\u00fcrden sich unsere Flexibilit\u00e4t und Mobilit\u00e4t wesentlich erh\u00f6hen. Die Aussicht, f\u00fcr mehrere Monate im Jahr im Osten Kretas leben zu k\u00f6nnen, war sicher auch eines der Motive Hannas, sich auf das Abenteuer einzulassen, Bootseignerin zu werden.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

To explain this, I need to go into a little more detail: When I went on my first sailing trip at sea in 2004 at Johannes‘ invitation, we were in Greece. In 2007, we spent our family holiday on Ikar\u00eda, the island where we had already moored in 2004. The following year, a colleague recommended Eastern Crete to us as a holiday destination and since our first visit to Pal\u00e9kastro in Jorgos‘ hotel \u201cMarina Village\u201d, we have never been able to get away from this region.<\/p>

We visit Eastern Crete at least once, sometimes twice a year, and in 2010 we even moored in Sit\u00eda, Kouremenos and Kato Zakros on our yearly charter trip. Towards the end of the second decennial, as our retirement slowly came into sight, we toyed with the idea of buying one of the empty houses in one of the picturesque old villages near the coast.<\/p>

Whereas before I had usually had the feeling that I had ended up \u2018on the wrong side of the coast\u2019, the idea of buying our own small yacht was to give the idea of owning our own home in eastern Crete a new dimension. The costs would roughly balance out, but the boat would significantly increase our flexibility and mobility. The prospect of being able to live in eastern Crete for several months a year was certainly one of Hanna’s motives for embarking on the adventure of becoming a boat owner.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Hochinteressante Minoische Ausgrabungen, Wanderungen von unterschiedlicher L\u00e4nge und Schwierigkeit, kleine D\u00f6rfer und \u00fcberschaubare St\u00e4dte und eine Infrastruktur, die alles bietet, was eine bescheidene Lebensf\u00fchrung erfordert und dabei koexistiert eine Form des Tourismus, der sich nach wie vor meist in Form von Familienbetrieben manifestiert.<\/p>

Den Menschen im Bezirk Sit\u00eda ist in den letzten Jahrzehnten ein Kunstst\u00fcck gelungen, das man sich f\u00fcr manch andere Region auch w\u00fcnschen k\u00f6nnte: eine Form von Tourismus zu entwickeln, die von den Menschen der Region getragen wird und dessen Ertrag haupts\u00e4chlich den Menschen der Region zugutekommt.<\/p>

Das sp\u00fcrt man auch als Besucher: Nat\u00fcrlich spielt das Geld, das ausgegeben wird, eine Rolle, aber man wird von den Einheimischen nicht als wandelnder Geldbeutel wahrgenommen. Deshalb ist es uns auch gelungen, im Lauf der Jahre ein paar pers\u00f6nliche Freundschaften zu entwickeln. <\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Highly interesting Minoan archaeological sites, hikes of varying length and difficulty, small villages and manageable towns and an infrastructure that offers everything that a modest lifestyle requires, coexisting with a form of tourism that still mostly manifests itself in the form of family businesses.<\/p>

Over the last few decades, the people of the district of Sit\u00eda have managed a feat that one could wish for in many other regions: to develop a form of tourism that is supported by the people of the region and whose proceeds mainly benefit the people of the region.<\/p>

You can also feel this as a visitor: of course the money that is spent plays a role, but you are not perceived by the locals as a walking wallet. That’s why we’ve also managed to develop a few long-lasting personal friendships over the years.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t
