Im Gegensatz zu den Hitzewellen des letzten Sommers sind wir diesmal in eine veritable K\u00e4ltewelle geraten. In den Bergen um die Lasithi-Ebene hat es sogar geschneit. In contrast to last summer\u2019s heatwaves, this time we\u2019ve been hit by a proper spell of cold weather. There\u2019s even been snow in the mountains around the Lassithi Plateau. We\u2019re glad we cancelled our trip to the islands and are trying to make the best of it by driving around in the car.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Zu sehen gibt es ja in dieser Gegend genug und Peter vertraut unserer Kenntnis des Osten Kretas. Die Wanderung in die Schlucht der Toten war schon sehr beeindruckend, aber am n\u00e4chsten Tag sind wir in der Stadt bzw. der Wohnung geblieben, weil in der gesamten Region Regen und Wind angesagt waren. Es hat dann auf fast 10\u00b0 abgek\u00fchlt, was wir zum Faulenzen und zur Entspannung genutzt haben.<\/p>

Am n\u00e4chsten Tag waren wir aber schon wieder unterwegs: Die Ausgrabungen des minoischen Palasts von Petras waren leider nicht zug\u00e4nglich, daf\u00fcr konnten wir in den \u00dcberbleibseln der antiken griechischen Stadt Tripitos herumst\u00f6bern und wieder einmal das erstaunliche antike Trockendock dieser Stadt bewundern. Was f\u00fcr ein Kontrast zum Vorjahr, die Strukturen in einer sattgr\u00fcnen Umrahmung mit leuchtenden Bl\u00fcten zu besichtigen.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

There\u2019s certainly plenty to see in this area, and Peter trusts our knowledge of eastern Crete. The hike through the Gorge of the Dead was truly impressive, but the next day we stayed in town \u2013 or rather, in the flat \u2013 because rain and wind were forecast across the whole region. The temperature then dropped to almost 10\u00b0C, which we used as an opportunity to laze about and relax.<\/p>

The following day, however, we were out and about again: the excavations of the Minoan palace at Petras were unfortunately closed, but we were able to explore the remains of the ancient Greek town of Tripitos and once again admire the town\u2019s astonishing ancient dry dock. What a contrast to last year, seeing the structures set against a lush green backdrop of bright blossoms!<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Da wir schon in der N\u00e4he waren und ohnehin eine Sightseeing-Tour mit dem Auto machen wollten, sind wir nach zuerst Roussa Eklisia hinauf gefahren und haben dann die Ebene von Karidi Richtung Pal\u00e9kastro \u00fcberquert. Bevor wir Jorgos und Aristidis bei der Arbeit im Hotel Marina Village st\u00f6rten, haben wir die Lagune von Hiona und die Ausgrabungen von Roussolakos besichtigt.<\/p>

Von Aris haben wir den Tipp bekommen, von Pal\u00e9kastro aus zur\u00fcck auf das Plateau zu fahren und das fast verlassene Dorf Xerolimni zu besuchen, bevor wir \u00fcber Roussa Eklisia wieder zur\u00fcck nach Sit\u00eda fahren w\u00fcrden. Das haben wir dann auch getan und die d\u00fcstere Stimmung auf der Hochebene \u00fcber dem Meer zwischen Weing\u00e4rten, Windr\u00e4dern und Sonnenkollektoren ausgekostet.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

As we were already in the area and wanted to go on a sightseeing tour by car anyway, we first drove up to Roussa Eklisia and then crossed the Karidi plain towards Pal\u00e9kastro. Before we disturbed Jorgos and Aristidis at their work at the hotel Marina Village, we visited the Hiona lagoon and the Roussolakos excavations.<\/p>

Aris suggested we drive back up to the plateau from Pal\u00e9kastro and visit the almost deserted village of Xerolimni before heading back to Sit\u00eda via Roussa Eklisia. So that\u2019s what we did, savouring the gloomy atmosphere on the plateau overlooking the sea, amidst vineyards, wind turbines and
