Livia ist gestern hier auf Kreta angekommen, aber es war schon fast Mitternacht bevor wir zum Boot kamen. Die Nacht war etwas unruhig, weil zwei der Festmacher sehr laut gequietscht haben. Heute Fr\u00fch habe ich das behoben – kommende Nacht werden wir alle drei hoffentlich gut schlafen. Am Freitag sollte der Wind so weit abgeflaut sein, dass wir mit einem ruhigen Segeltag die etwas \u00fcber 20 Seemeilen nach Kouremenos gem\u00fctlich bew\u00e4ltigen k\u00f6nnen.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Livia arrived here in Crete yesterday, but it was already almost midnight by the time we got to the boat. The night was a bit restless because two of the mooring lines were squeaking very loudly. I fixed that this morning\u2014hopefully all three of us will sleep well tonight. By Friday, the wind should have died down enough that we can comfortably cover the slightly more than 20 nautical miles to Kouremenos with a calm day of sailing.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Seit 16. M\u00e4rz liegt die Pepperbird nun im Hafen von Sit\u00eda. Der Sturm Erminio vom 1. April hat ein paar Sch\u00e4den verursacht, aber die w\u00fcrden uns nicht am Segeln hindern. Wir wollten jedoch zun\u00e4chst die Sache mit der Versicherung kl\u00e4ren bzw. dachten wir, dass wir hier in der Gegend jemanden f\u00fcr die Reparaturen finden w\u00fcrden. Aber alle Firmen lehnten es ab, auch nur einen Kostenvoranschlag zu erstellen, sie waren auf Monate hinaus mit Auftr\u00e4gen ausgelastet.<\/p>

Dazu kam das ungew\u00f6hnlich regenreiche Fr\u00fchjahr hier im Osten Kretas, das die Landschaft nach drei Jahren D\u00fcrre zum Erbl\u00fchen brachte. Diese Einladung zu Wanderungen in die Berge konnten wir nicht ignorieren. The Pepperbird has been in the port of Sit\u00eda since March 16. Storm Erminio on April 1 caused some damage, but it wouldn\u2019t prevent us from sailing. However, we wanted to sort out the insurance first\u2014or rather, we thought we would find someone in the area to do the repairs. But all the companies refused to even provide a cost estimate; they were booked solid with jobs for months to come.<\/p>

On top of that, we had an unusually rainy spring here in eastern Crete, which brought the landscape to flourish after three years of drought. We couldn\u2019t ignore this invitation to go hiking in the mountains. Hanna und ich haben in den letzten Tagen schon einiges erledigt \u2013 au\u00dfer dem Einbau der Dusche: Unser Freund, Yorgos, hat uns einen Platz in seinem Zweitb\u00fcro zur Verf\u00fcgung gestellt, wo wir einige Kisten mit \u00fcberfl\u00fcssigem Werkzeug und Material abstellen konnten. Jetzt ist Platz f\u00fcr eine dritte Person. Wir haben auch schon einen Plan erstellt, was morgen noch zu tun ist, damit wir am Freitagmorgen losfahren k\u00f6nnen. Es ist das \u00dcbliche: Wasser und Lebensmittel einkaufen, Akkus aufladen, Sachen sicher verstauen, einen Kursplan erstellen, Wetterbericht checken, Motor zur Probe starten, beim Hafenamt abmelden etc.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Hanna and I have already completed quite a bit over the past few days\u2014except for installing the shower: Our friend, Yorgos, has given us space in his second office, where we were able to store a few boxes of extra tools and materials. Now there\u2019s room for a third person. We\u2019ve also already made a plan for what needs to be done tomorrow so we can set sail on Friday morning. It\u2019s the usual: buying water and groceries, charging all our batteries, stowing our belongings securely, drawing up a passage plan, checking the weather forecast, test-starting the engine, checking out at the harbour office, etc.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t
