Messini? Kyrthera? Kreta?
Wer kennt sich noch aus?
In der wunderschönen Ankerbucht von Kythera hat das Mobiltelefon kaum funktioniert, an ein Arbeiten im Internet war nicht zu denken. Inzwischen sind wir 124 Seemeilen weitergefahren und auf Kreta angekommen. Solange ich hier in diesem Lokal W-LAN habe, werde ich versuchen, die Konfusion aufzulösen.

Who still knows what’s going on?
In the beautiful anchorage bay of Kythera, mobile phones barely worked, and working on the internet was out of the question. We have now travelled 124 nautical miles further and arrived in Crete. As long as I have Wi-Fi here in this restaurant, I will try to clear up the confusion.

Also: Seit wir in Erikousa angekommen sind, sind wir nur mehr „lange Etappen“ gefahren, die über Nacht gedauert haben, 95 bis 126 Seemeilen. In Pylos, am Golf von Navarino, haben wir eine längere Pause gemacht, ein Auto gemietet und die alte Siedlungsregion Messenien – mit dem Ort Kalamata – erkundet. Von dort bin ich noch zwei, drei Diashows schuldig, die unsere kulturellen Ausflüge in der griechischen Sommerhitze dokumentieren (siehe Mεσσήνη-2!)
Bevor ich diese Dokumentation abschließen konnte, nämlich am letzten Sonntag (17.08.) haben wir Pylos verlassen und sind am Tag darauf in Kythera angekommen, wo wir einen Ankerplatz ohne W-LAN in Anspruch genommen haben. Am Mittwoch (20.08) haben wir günstiges Wetter für die Überfahrt nach Kreta (östlich von Iraklion) gehabt, das wir natürlich ausnutzen mussten. Jetzt haben wir wieder W-LAN (im Marina-Hotel-Restaurant) und ich schreibe dieses Update.
So: Since we arrived in Erikousa, we have only made ‘long stages’ that lasted overnight, 95 to 126 nautical miles. In Pylos, on the Gulf of Navarino, we took a longer break, rented a car and explored the ancient settlement region of Messenia – including the town of Kalamata. From there, I still owe you two or three slideshows documenting our cultural excursions in the Greek summer heat (see Mεσσήνη-2!).
Before I could finish this documentation, namely last Sunday (17 August), we left Pylos and arrived in Kythera the next day, where we took advantage of an anchorage without Wi-Fi. On Wednesday (20 August), we had favourable weather for the crossing to Crete (east of Heraklion), which we naturally had to utilize. Now we have Wi-Fi again (in the marina hotel restaurant) and I am writing this update.

Wie geht es jetzt weiter, mit der Reise und mit dem Blog?
Mit der Reise ist das einfach: Morgen fahren wir nach Sitía, unserem Ziel. Dort wird einmal das weitere Prozedere mit der pepperbird geklärt (wo und wie verbringt sie den Winter?) Wir Menschen suchen uns vielleicht für ein paar Tage ein Hotel, damit wir nach über zwei Monaten an Bord wieder einmal ein privates Bad und ein nicht schaukelndes Bett genießen können.
Dann sehen wir weiter.
Die nächsten ein, zwei Wochen werde ich auch dazu nutzen, um mich bei Mitsakakis, der Café-Konditorei mit den weltweit besten Lokoumades, „einzuquartieren“ und alle losen Enden und angefangenen Geschichten zu Ende zu führen.

What happens next with the trip and the blog?<BR />The trip is simple: tomorrow we’re heading to Sitía, our destination. Once there, we’ll sort out the next steps with the pepperbird (where and how will she spend the winter?). We humans might look for a hotel for a few days so that we can enjoy a private bathroom and a bed that doesn’t rock for the first time in over two months.
Then we’ll see.
I’ll also use the next week or two to ‘move in’ at Mitsakakis, the café-patisserie with the world’s best lokoumades, and tie up all the loose ends and finish all the stories I’ve started.

Jetzt fehlen noch die beiden Etappen von Pylos nach Kythera und von Kythera nach Gouves …

Nachdem es in den Marinas nicht immer brauchbares W-LAN gibt und wir auch nicht immer die Zeit finden, alle aktuellen Ereignisse zeitnah im Blog zu verarbeiten, mag es sich lohnen, immer wieder auf frühere Beiträge zurückzukommen – es könnte zusätzliche Inhalte zu betrachten geben.
