Wir sind am Ziel!
Sitía, eine kleine Bezirksstadt im äußersten Nordosten Kretas, war das erklärte Ziel unserer Segelreise. Seit 2008 machen wir regelmäßig Urlaub in der Region und haben auch einige Freunde gefunden, die wir hoffentlich bald wiedersehen werden. Von Koper/Capodistria hierher waren es 1.103 Seemeilen, die wir in sechzehn Etappen und in zwei Monaten und drei Tagen bewältigt haben.
Jetzt genießen wir das gute Gefühl, angekommen zu sein.
We've reached our destination!
Sitía, a small district town in the far north-east of Crete, was the declared destination of our sailing trip. We have been holidaying regularly in the region since 2008 and have also made some friends whom we hope to see again soon. It was 1,103 nautical miles from Koper/Capodistria to here, which we covered in sixteen stages over two months and three days.
Now we are enjoying the good feeling of having arrived.

Dieses letzte Teilstück was mühsam genug zu bewältigen. Wieder einmal hatten wir weniger Wind als angekündigt, und wieder einmal direkt von achtern. Es waren 44,5 Seemeilen laut Route, geworden sind es aufgrund der Vorwindkreuz, die wir zeitweise fahren mussten, über 47.
Dazu war es ein heißer Tag mit ca. 35 °C und ab Mittag hatten wir kaum Schatten im Cockpit. Wir wollten um 18:00 angekommen sein, damit wir einen ruhigen Abend in einem der netten Restaurants am Hafen verbringen konnten. Mithilfe des Motors ist sich das auch ausgegangen.
This last section was difficult enough to manage. Once again, we had less wind than forecast, and once again it was coming directly from astern. According to the route, it was 44.5 nautical miles, but due to the downwind tack we had to sail at times, it ended up being over 47.
On top of that, it was a hot day with temperatures around 35 °C, and from midday onwards we had hardly any shade in the cockpit. We wanted to arrive at 6 p.m. so that we could spend a quiet evening in one of the nice restaurants at the harbour. With the help of the engine, we managed to do just that.

10:15 – Wind picks up enough for ‘motor sailing’
10:30 – Engine off, sailing flat before the wind with the main
11:05 – Wind not strong enough – engine on
11:30 – Gennaker set
11:45 – Engine off (course 65 instead of 90)
12:15 – Gennaker stowed, jibbed with engine, full sail set, engine off
14:30 – Sails stowed, engine on, course 113
15:20 – Engine off, mainsail and genoa set
16:05 – Engine on, sail stowed
An Land ist es noch heißer
It’s even hotter on land
Zwei, drei Wochen werden wir jetzt einmal hier bleiben. Zunächst wollen wir mit dem Hafenkapitän über die „Zukunft“ der pepperbird verhandeln. Wir hätten gerne einen fixen Liegeplatz im Hafen und brauchen einen Landliegeplatz für den Winter. Eventuell müssen wir dazu in die Marina nach Agios Nikolaos übersiedeln. Mal sehen!
Eventuell werden wir uns dann ein paar Tage in ein Hotel einquartieren, um es wieder einmal etwas bequemer zu haben. Wenn dann Mitte September die touristische Saison zu Ende geht, wollen wir aber noch ein paar Reisen in die umliegende Inselwelt der Ägäis unternehmen. Karparthos ist nur 65 Seemeilen entfernt.
For the moment, we will stay here for two or three weeks. First, we want to negotiate the ‘future’ of the pepperbird with the harbour master. We would like a permanent berth in the harbour and need a dry berth for the winter. We may have to move to the marina in Agios Nikolaos for this.
We’ll see!
We may then stay in a hotel for a few days to enjoy a little more comfort. When the tourist season ends in mid-September, we want to take a few trips to the surrounding islands in the Aegean Sea. Karpathos is only 65 nautical miles away.

Nachdem es in den Marinas nicht immer brauchbares W-LAN gibt und wir auch nicht immer die Zeit finden, alle aktuellen Ereignisse zeitnah im Blog zu verarbeiten, mag es sich lohnen, immer wieder auf frühere Beiträge zurückzukommen – es könnte zusätzliche Inhalte zu betrachten geben.
